Summary
The aim of this article is to examine relationships between crime rate and socio – economic, demographic and environmental factors in the subregions of Poland. There was used Ward’s method to reduce number of factors and make a choice of explanatory variables used in econometric models. There were compared results of different methods of choice explanatory variables. The worst fitted to empirical data was model where explanatory variables were chosen using gravity center method.
